CLUB
SOCIAL
This is an initiative that
offers technical assistance and coordinates projects
that employ or wish to employ sports and recreation
as tools to promote development, social integration
and citizen participation, particularly of children
and youngsters. |

BEGINNINGS
This initiative was created
in the year 2000 by the Civil Society and Social
Development Department of the State and Society
Study Center (CEDES) with the support of the W.K.
Kellogg Foundation. CEDES is a private, independent,
non-profit academic institution |

founded
in 1975 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It carries out research,
training and technical assistance activities in the following
areas: civil society, health, education, applied economy, public
policies and health care

MISSION
To
promote the inclusion of sports and recreation in social development
projects, fostering the participation of different actors, mainly
children and youngsters. |

SPORTS
AND RECREATION
Sports
and recreation have become fundamental tools for attracting
children and youngsters in greater numbers. Using these activities
also facilitates taking coordinated action in other fields such
as education, health and community development. |

OBJECTIVES
The
main objective is to provide technical assistance to different
kinds of work-related social initiatives by means of sports
and recreation.
Club Social also proposes to:
• Orient different participants with respect to the importance
of including sports and recreation in social initiatives.
• Foster areas for exchange among diverse initiatives
that work with sports and recreation.
• Publicize the sports and recreation related activities
carried out by the social organizations
• Produce intellectual work related to the social aspect
of sports and recreation related issues. |

AREAS
OF WORK
Club
Social works in three different areas: research, institutional
support and technical assistance.
In the field of research, it produces theoretical papers and
others of a practical nature, used for training and education
purposes.
In the area related to institutional support, it publicizes
information, holds training workshops and organizes exchange
meetings.
With respect to technical assistance, Club Social advises different
actors in the elaboration of sports and recreation related projects
and helps to boost the impact of projects currently underway
in Argentina and Brazil. |

COMMUNICATION
The
Club Social team provides information through its website
and sends out a monthly electronic bulletin that includes
information about activities related to the topic of sports
and recreation, articles and interviews, news items and information
about congresses and events among other subjects.
