As part of the Club
Social initiative, a program was created in 2004
whose objective it is to accompany and facilitate the
development of sports and recreational activities as tools
for social inclusion within the Integrated Groups
Projects (IGPs). These projects are developed
locally in the northeast of Brazil and are supported by
the Kellogg Foundation (www.wkkf.org).
To this effect, various activities were carried out during
2004 and the beginning of 2005, aimed at detecting the
needs, the existing capabilities and opportunities at
each site as well as getting to know the guidelines each
IGP was planning to implement as part of its sports and
recreational activities agenda. Besides the aforementioned,
an attempt was made to identify the strategic local institutions
and actors who might be willing to go along with and participate
in the innovative proposals that would link sports and
recreational activities with the development of youth
and the community.
The intention behind this strategy is to accompany the
initiatives that each IGP is commencing, acting as a facilitator
of the processes related to internal skills creation and
to the development of their respective calendar of activities.
Therefore, the objective of CEDES’
support activities is to strengthen the IGPs technical
and operative capabilities, acting as a link between the
human resources and materials available at local, state,
regional and in some cases national level..
The support strategy will have three key elements: technical
and training assistance, research and communications.
To get the program up and running, CEDES will establish
an agreement with a similar Brazilian institution located
in the Northeast to implement the work strategy.
The working team’s objectives are:
• to contribute to the start-up of the sports and
recreational programs of each IGP.
• to favor the inclusion of sports and recreation
related activities which contribute to local development.
• to establish work methodologies based on sports
and recreation that foster the leading role and independence
of young people in their respective micro-regions.
